multimedia design (page 2)

sample
multimedia design walk-through
the following illustrates briefly some of what can be done
in a multimedia presentation. we use the ably. Productions
multimedia sampler as an example, but keep in mind that our
sampler is designed to meet our needs, and that your multimedia
presentation does not have to be anything like this at all.
the end result of any multimedia is limited only by your budget,
and the creativity of the designer.
the
ably. Productions multimedia sampler
when initiated the multimedia portion of our cd plays an introductory
movie advertising our company and services (an introductory
portion to your presentation could be a great place to include
ads for your sponsors, industry partners, or products
or services other than the ones focused on in the actual presentation).
one
of our industry partners, Dark Skippy Records (a local record
label affiliated with Sound Of One Hand Recording Studios),
has a multimedia presentation which they include on each and
every one of their artists' cd releases.

the "environment" in which you place
your user is crucial to the overall "feel" of your presentation
this
environment was designed specifically with our
company's needs, and the purpose of this particular
presentation in mind. the possibile "look"s
and "feel"s of your presentation's environment
are virtually limitless... there are some technological
boundaries, but mainly you are limited only by the creativity
of the designer.
we
have chosen not to label the "working" parts in our
environment, and force our users to experiment and explore
the interface... another common approach, however, is
to clearly label the parts in your environment (eg.,
a button used to initiate the playing of a video clip
could be labelled with the universal arrowhead/triangle
symbol) making everything in your presentation easy
to find and effectively "user friendly".
this
unlabelled "exploring on the fly" design that we have
used here is an effective method of quickly making the
user a part of the environment, thus accelerating (and
even furthering) the interactive experience.

making
the evironment user interactive
upon
entering our presentation's enviroment a "video clip" is automatically
played and looped in the monitor graphic. when you drag the
mouse icon over different parts of the GUI (graphical user interface)
different things start to happen...
when the mouse icon is dragged overtop of one of the larger
buttons on the right side of the screen a sound effect
is played and the button seems to light up. |
 |
| by
clicking the mouse icon on the same button you activate
a sound effect, a menu to its left. and the lighted button
changes to red signifying that you have activated that
particular section of the presentation. |
|
| now
that the menu for button one is activated you can choose
a category. by clicking the mouse icon over top of a selection
you activate another sound effect, fill in the selection's
associated box graphic and open a sub-menu. |
 |
| the
"monitor" graphic has now changed and prompts you to "input"
a "clip" selection. you can now "input" a selection
by clicking your mouse icon overtop of one of the five
empty circles to the right of the monitor graphic. |
|
| when
you click a selection a sound effect is played, the circle
graphic fills in, and the selection is presented in the
monitor (in this particular case the selection is a quicktime
video clip). a description of the activated clip is listed
underneath of the monitor graphic. |
 |
| once
you have activated the selection in the monitor graphic
you can now control the video playback by using the "play
control" interface underneath of the monitor. when you
drag your mouse icon over the play buttons, the buttons
are lighted, sound effects are activated, and a large
symbol appears to the right of the controls telling you
which control you are selecting. |
 |
| when
you click and select a playback control it's button, and
its symbol (to the right of playback interface change
to red to signify that it is currently active). |
 |
| by
activating the different menus and sub-menus in the environment
the user can access various files illustrating our products,
services, and projects, including quicktime video clips,
graphic design samples, and music. |
